Senior Product Quality Engineer

The Senior Product Quality Engineer will be responsible for ensuring and improving overall quality levels of products manufactured. This position will report to the Product Quality Manager and will participate in a variety of quality processes, oversee the day-to-day problem solving and root cause analysis, and drive process improvements that result in higher outgoing quality levels. The Senior Product Quality Engineer will also guide the Failure Analysis and Product Audit groups and utilize the data generated for improving the quality of product and performance.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Monitor and Ensure Quality.
  • Manage information coming from inspection, product audits, cell tear down, and scrap from operations to identify top issues on cell quality and performance.
  • Implement SPC charts and perform data analysis on relevant battery performance characteristics. Use this information to improve quality either by improving efficiency and/or reducing scrap. Take leadership in the analysis and trending of test measurements used in product acceptance.
  • Facilitate access to key information, samples, or other resources needed to ensure success. Utilize systems such as Unipoint and Power Bi in management of quality information. Report relevant KPI’s on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis.
  • Participate in Quality Processes.
  • Coordinate or participate in specification reviews, process validations, and product qualification activities.
  • Manage the non-conforming (NC’s) material review program. Determine key causes of out of spec batches and work to implement effective countermeasures to reduce/eliminate over time. Work with Material Review Board to obtain timely dispositions on blocked stock.
  • Assist in conducting FMEA meetings with results that drive internal engineering activities.
  • Assist in maintaining and continually improving the effectiveness of the Quality Management System. Conduct QMS internal audits and drive associated corrective action tasks to completion.
  • Solve Product Quality Problems.
  • Work with engineers and operations to troubleshoot top issues. Lead or participate in investigations and solutions with cross-functional teams including Manufacturing, Product Engineering, Process Engineering, and Product Experience. Facilitate problem solving sessions, progress review meetings, or telephone conferences.
  • Own or participate on Corrective Preventive Actions (CPAs). Utilize six sigma tools and techniques, DMAIC, and other quality methodologies to determine root cause and implement corrective actions.
  • Respond to customer complaints.
  • Improve Operations.
  • Utilize statistical analytical techniques to identify sources of variation and opportunities to improve.
  • Work with floor supervisors, operators, and engineering to develop a list of continuous process improvement initiatives.
  • Prioritize initiatives and follow up on actions to ensure completion. Determine necessary resources and costs to complete initiatives.
  • Perform other duties that may be assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge and experience with ISO/QS standards (ISO 9001, ISO 13485) and FDA regulations
  • Experience utilizing DMAIC, 8D tools preferred, and Design of Experiments
  • Experience in Lean, Six Sigma, or other efficiency methodology is a plus
  • Proven success troubleshooting complex problems within manufacturing environment
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills across all levels of the organization
  • Solid computing and statistical skills for problem solving and solution implementation.
  • Creativity coupled with sound scientific discipline will be vital to achieving success in this position

Education and/or Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Chemistry or relevant Science discipline
  • Five or more years of quality engineering and/or process engineering experience working in a technical manufacturing environment.

Computer Skills

  • Computer expertise in MS Office, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Excel; web-savvy.
  • Proficient using: Mini-Tab or Jump, Microsoft (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
